This listing is for the complete full-color digital plans for a "Compact Wood Storage Cart." This design should work well in pretty much any small woodshop and is intended to store all of your off-cuts, scraps, and left over sheets from projects. The cart is fully mobile so that you can move it around your shop with ease.
The plans are laid out in easy-to-follow illustrated instructions that should be easy to modify should you need a different sized cart.
In total this project will require
- 2-1/2 sheets of 3/4" plywood
- 6 Casters
- Variety of screws/glue
There is a full build video on the "Shop Nation" YouTube channel if you would like to reference the build there. Check out my Etsy shop for other shop furniture projects and happy building!

FAQ
Good questions before you build
Is this a physical product?
No. This is a digital download of the build plans, not a finished piece of furniture or a kit of parts. Nothing ships to you, and you source the lumber and hardware yourself.
How do I get my plans after I buy?
Right after checkout you'll get an email with your download link. Check your spam or promotions folder if it doesn't show up within a few minutes.
Can I print the plans?
Yes. The plans are a standard PDF, so you can print them at home or at a print shop, or just keep them open on a phone, tablet or laptop while you work.
What skill level do I need?
The plans are written to be approachable. If you're comfortable with common power tools and take your time, you can follow along one step after another.
Is there a build video to follow?
Most Shop Nation projects are featured on the Shop Nation YouTube channel, so you can watch the build come together as a companion to the plans.
Pretty straightforward instructions. Although the finished width of the shelves could stand to be published somewhere in the guide, it’s about the only thing that wasn’t detailed. Definitely looking forward to building the next Shop Nation design.
My scrap wood pile and sheet goods were getting out of control. They don't take up any less space in the garage, but it's now more organized and easier to see what I do have. I've already used a few scrap pieces for a project rather than going and buying more lumber.
I thoroughly enjoy your channel and your innovative products. I adapted the lumber cart a bit to beat for my needs but your plans were great!
When will the dust collection hood for the Metabo/HPT miter saw be ready? I need it desperately.
Loved these plans. Super easy to follow. I adjusted the long storage on the back to have just 2x4's as supports rather than shelving so that the dust wouldn't accumulate. Holds so much more lumber than my precious wood storage.
The front vertical strips were too short from the dimensions you provided. Not sure how that happened, however I recut them long then screwed them down and used a flush cut pull saw to the ends. Came out perfect. Thanks for taking the time to design it. Great plans!!
Plans were great easy to follow. Only change that I made was tge casters had to go with a heavier duty ones. All in all it went pretty good and was done in one day with my boys helping me
Plan was clear and the resulting cart allowed me to finally get my assorted pieces of lumber organized in a manner that allows me to know what I have (and easily access it).
When loaded the cart is HEAVY. Buy good wheels, maybe steel would be best?
Really easy build. I would make the walls of the vertical stick compartments a little taller if I were to build another one, but this a really handy rack.
Extremely well written plans very easy to follow. I built my version 8 ft long instead of 6 ft I also built it out of pressure treated lumber as it will be sitting outside under a carport in front of my shop. Cleaned up all of the mess and organize my wood in a way that I can see it. Much easier to make your projects when you can see and find what you need. Get the plan you won't regret it.
"Shop Greatness"
One download I'm happy that I purchased. Space in my garage was getting tight due to scrap boards leaning against everything and everywhere. This literally solved my space conundrum. And it was literally only a few hours to build.
First of all, the Upper Cart Assembly Instructions 1 have the back panel improperly oriented. Thankfully I read the whole plan and realized the channels are on the long side, but the picture is misleading. Also, having to use a router was a total PITA, especially with plywood, and had I realized that prior to the purchase and execution, it would have been a non-starter. It was a massive time-sink and didn't turn out as sturdy as I hoped.
